Iowa charges nothing to change a registered agent. The filing is one document: Form 635_0119, the Statement of Change of Registered Office and/or Registered Agent, submitted to the Iowa Secretary of State's Business Services Division. Iowa Code § 489.116 governs the change and § 489.122(1)(g) sets the fee at zero for LLCs.

A note on stale citations: Iowa renumbered chapter 489 effective January 1, 2024. Guides written before that cite § 489.114 for agent changes. The current section is § 489.116.

The Form

Form 635_0119 (PDF) comes straight from the Secretary of State. Know three things before filling it out:

Fee for LLCs: $0. The form's own instructions say no fee is required for limited liability companies (partnerships pay $5 on the same form).
Address rule: the registered office street address and the agent's business office street address must be identical on this form.
